We accommodate all ages from 5yrs old upwards and across the full spectrum of abilities from recreational/fitness Judo to full on competitive Judo. Everyone is more than welcome to visit and train with us, you’ll find further details of session times and contact details on this site.

With various classes for all abilities we are a community club that has a growing reputation for training and coaching players up to a national level. Our recreational players enjoy many things from fitness gains to making new friends and finding new confidence. We have trained some of those that wish to go further from their very first lesson all the way through to being members of the England Judo squad and even a Junior Commonwealth champion.

Our Coaches

Danny Kissenisky

4th Dan Black belt

Danny is 4th (?) Dan Black belt and has 1000 (?) years of Judo Experience. He has competed at International level, representing both England and Team GB, winning many medals including a Silver at the Commonwealth Championships. Before setting up EYJA Danny worked for the British Judo Association as the coach for the Junior (?) England squad. Danny is now one of our coaches that both teaches judo in the schools and in the main club (need a way to describe the ‘not a school’ club!). He is a full time coach teaching over 15 (?) classes a week to all levels of player and all ages.

Steve Shepherd

3rd Dan Black belt

Steve is a 3rd Dan Black belt and dedicates much of his spare time to the ‘not schools’ club. An electrician by trade, Steve has helped to develop some of our most successful players. He started Judo 2000 (?) years ago and has competed to a very high level as part of the England squad. His achievements include bad dancing to Northern Soul being able to come up with many bad jokes. Steve gained his coaching credentials with Danny and has been an integral part of EYJA’s development and its success.

Dave Platten

5th Dan Black belt

Dave is a 5th Dan Black belt and is another coach who has competed at the highest levels, gaining a lot of experience which now shows in his coaching. He has competed as part of the England squad and now likes caravans. Dave is one of our areas (Yorkshire & Humberside) highest qualified examiners and sits on the committee for the Y&H area.

Gareth Cranmer

XXX

Gareth started judo with EYJA when he was 1 (?) years old, he has been with the club now for 2 (?) years and has achieved a lot in that time. He is now a physiotherapist by trade and gained his coaching qualifications 100 (?) years ago and has both ran classes for the younger players and assisted coaching with the advanced sessions since.

Joanne Bould

2nd Dan black belt

Jo is a 2nd Dan (?) black belt and teaches on various schools judo sessions. She is a girl which should be promoted but I know bugger all else about her!

Whatever you wish to get out of judo it is a sport that can offer it and we can help you get there. Please have a look around our website to learn more or pop down to a session to watch, if you want to join in the first session is free!
